Miles Cole
Miles Cole is a London based contemporary artist whose work is rooted in the tradition of British and European post-war Modernism particularly abstract painting. Miles draws inspiration from various sources such as the rugged coastal landscape of Cornwall , the City of London with its architecture and random geometry. In Miles's words, "these are departure points for an intuitive painting process that includes layering with palette knives, scratching back, adding texture with wax or marble dust, sanding down and exploring the role of accident and chance until the initial subject matter is transformed into a new reality - one of pure abstraction".
Jazz is a big influence on Miles's work and this is reflected in many of the titles of his works. Miles graduated with an MA Fine Art from Chelsea School of Art , following a BA Fine Art from Gloucestershire College Of Art & Design. He began a successful career as an illustrator with regular commissions for The Economist,Times Educational Supplements, Mail On Sunday, Wall St Journal, Esquire, Tatler and numerous publishing and advertising clients.
