Sally Hirst
Sally is an abstract artist and print maker originally from South London and now living in Spain and Norfolk. Her work is about journeys; her travels and the actual process of her art making. Her work is imbued with layers of information and meaning. She begins each painting by building texture and colours with acrylics before adding many layers of oil, pigments and cold wax medium. Through a process of scraping and re-working she achieves a highly textural surface revealing the underlying colours. After many layers she, "tames the chaos by redefining the design with strong shapes, lines and structure".
Sally completed a BA (hons) Study of Art followed by a PGCE at Cambridge University, and after many years teaching Art and Design is now a full time artist, currently studying for an MA in Fine Art. Sally teaches a range of workshops in painting and printmaking, and give talks and demonstrations. She has exhibited widely in galleries in both Norwich, Suffolk, and Spain.
