Caroline Gold
Caroline Gold was born in London and now divides her time between coastal Suffolk and Lewes, in the South Downs.
She says “I work fairly intuitively, often in response to something I’ve seen or imagined on one of my daily walks. I like to mix things up a bit and alternate between abstraction and representation, often merging the two. My paintings are a distillation of my experience of a landscape rather than an accurate record of its topography." Caroline studied at Hammersmith College of Art and latterly, Anglia Ruskin College in Cambridge, where she took a degree in History of Art and Illustration. In the gap between, she raised three children and made a living as a script editor and television drama producer. After a decade working as an illustrator for companies such as Woodmansterne Cards, Medici Publications, Barefoot Childrens’ Books and English Heritage, she began painting full time, helped by an association with a leading North American Art Publishing company, who continue to pay her royalties for reproducing selected works as open edition prints. Caroline has exhibited at the Mall Galleries, London, Towner Gallery, Eastbourne, Buckingham Gallery, Southwold, Blackthorpe Barn, Bury St Edmunds, Clairmonte Gallery, Brighton, Upper Street Gallery, Islington, Suffolk Craft Society, Ipswich, Snape Maltings Gallery, Suffolk and Chalk Gallery, Lewes.
