Jane Hewlett
Jane Hewlett is a contemporary painter living and working in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Her studio overlooks the River Deben, which provides the setting for many of her paintings.
Jane has a BA degree in fine art from East Anglia University and a postgraduate diploma in fine art from City and Guilds Art School, London. Most of Jane's work begins with plain-air watercolour sketches. She then applies up to 7 coats of hand made gesso, traditionally made from rabbit skin glue and Gesso di Bologna. This, combined with oil paint applied with a palette knife, produces her distinctive impasto and clarity of colour.
