Jane Hewlett is a contemporary painter living and working in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Her studio overlooks the River Deben, which provides the setting for many of her paintings. 
​
Jane has a BA degree in fine art from East Anglia University and a postgraduate  diploma in fine art from City and Guilds Art School, London.
​
Most of Jane's work begins with plain-air watercolour sketches. 
She then applies up to 7 coats of hand made gesso, traditionally made from rabbit skin glue and Gesso di Bologna.  This, combined with oil paint applied with a palette knife, produces her distinctive impasto and clarity  of colour.

We are easy to find. 5 minutes walk from Woodbridge train station (1.5 hours from London, Liverpool Street) and easily accessible by train or car from Cambridge and Norwich. Parking nearby but not directly outside the Gallery unless for loading or unloading.
