Martin Battye
Martin is an abstract painter and writer living in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk having been brought up in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Martin also spends time painting in Provence in France.
Martin Batty's work began over 40 years ago in a tradition of landscape painting. After a career in business and healthcare Martin returned to painting full time. Today Martin has left most of the recognisable landscape form and lines behind to create canvases of bold collisions of colour and texture. Sometimes the paint is sprayed and flecked onto the surface from a brush. As a student Martin had been taken with Goethe's colour theory of 1810, "people experience a great delight in colour, generally. The eye requires it as much as it requires light...." Martin studied at Winchester and Sunderland Schools of Art, and was influenced by teachers John Bellany and Barry Hirst. He is fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and a member of the Norwich 20 Group. Martin has exhibited widely within the UK, from the Northern Young Contemporaries to the Royal Academy Summer Shows. He has had a number of recent solo shows, including Mandell's Gallery in Norwich, and Chappel galleries in Colchester, Essex. His work is currently in a group show at Galeria La Madlita in Barclelona. For sales enquires please contact [email protected] |
